Smyth County Schools Gifted Plan

Welcome to the Smyth County Enrichment Resource Program

2021-2022 Units of Study

Social Studies:  Ancient Cultures

Students will explore Ancient Cultures such as Greece, Rome, Egypt, and the Americas.  Individuals or groups will choose one ancient civilization to research.  Interest driven projects will be created with information pertaining to the geography, economic relationships, power, technology, and attributes  of their chosen culture.

Language Arts:  Psychology/The Museum of I

Students will engage in self-reflections through the “Museum of I. “ recognizing psychological characteristics found in themselves and others.  Instruction will focus on exploration of  attitudes, learning styles, and much more.

Math:  Personal Finances/Cost of Living

Students will gain a deeper understanding of money management with practical money skills.  They will look at the different aspects of the cost of living, credits, debt, paying bills, savings, and investing.  The goal is for students to discover what is required to obtain financial independence.

Science:  Ecosystems

Ecosystems are the basis of survival for all living things. In order for us to exist, we need to cultivate and nurture other organisms. It’s very important that an ecosystem meets the basic needs of every living thing in order to survive.  Students will discover the importance of the many components of an ecosystem.  Students will choose an ecosystem.  They will construct a model that best represents the elements that make their chosen ecosystem unique.

2022 Hungry Mother Field Experience

Enrichment Resource Program students participated in a Field Experience where they learned about the ecosystem at Hungry Mother State Park
