Mathematics plays a crucial role in architecture by providing the foundation for design, structural integrity, and the creation of aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces. Students will explore the application of mathematical principles in architectural design using symmetry, proportion, scale, and geometry to make connections between form and space.
Unit 3: Language Arts
Shakespeare
Students will learn about Shakespeare and Elizabethan pageantry through the activities in this unit. They will create multiple elements of the Shakespearean influence to include but not limited to puppet shows, costume design, banquets of that time, all complete with contest and jesters. The language of the period will be incorporated into activities.
Unit 4: Social Studies
Knights and Castles
Students will explore the medieval world of knights and castles, focusing on roles, significance, and daily life during the Middle Ages. They will understand the historical context, architectural features, and societal roles of both knights and castles. They will be able to describe the training and education required to become a knight, including the stages of becoming a page, squire, and then a knight. We will investigate the effectiveness of architectural features of medieval castles, such as moats, drawbridges, battlements, and keeps.
