2023-2024 Units of StudyUnit 1: Social Studies/History
Anthropology Anthropologists study human beings and their cultures from prehistoric times to today. Students will explore the field of anthropology by investigating different human communities and comparing their similarities and differences. By doing this, they will increase their knowledge about humanity as a whole, as well as about specific groups of people. Unit 2: Language Arts Life Etiquette In today’s fast paced technology driven world, teaching children about manners is more crucial than ever. In this unit, we will help our students develop essential social skills and learn key manners. Students will practice conversation skills and interact politely and respectfully with people. Whether the occasion is a holiday gathering, family meal, or a simple trip to the store, the way we interact with others makes a huge impact on our lives. Students will be empowered by life etiquette that will contribute to future success! Unit 3: Math Geometric Constructions: Kites Students will use properties and theorems of parallelograms and/or triangles to construct and fly kites. Students will research a variety of kites to determine what would make a successful flight. While people fly kites for different reasons, nothing quite matches the satisfaction of getting a kite of one’s own research and creation airborne. Unit 4: Science Anatomy To understand the human body it is necessary to know the structure of its parts, what they do, and how they work together. Anatomy is the Scientific study of the structure of living things. The study of how the structures function is known as Physiology. Students will investigate some of the major systems including the skeletal, respiratory, digestive, and more to gain a greater understanding of how our bodies work. |
